The Waimea Days long distance race kicks off the canoe racing season each year. The course is set up as a triangle to make it spectator friendly. During heats, the Waimea pier is crowded with spectators who cheer their teams through the two laps that women and mixed teams complete, or three laps for the men. The Kilohana Canoe Club is the host of the Waimea Days long distance race each year and they do a great job! The starts are on time and the day concludes with great food and lots of fun and friendship between the competitors who have been training hard and looking forward to this first race of the year.
